Water lentils are a simple free-floating aquatic plant from the Lemnoideae family.
Lemnoideae (Water lentils) is a family that includes both Lemna and Wolffia.
Water lentils are one of the only plants that are considered a complete food source, meaning they can provide protein, fiber, fats, and micronutrients all in one. Higher in essential amino acids than soy or pea protein and comparable to whey protein.
Water lentils double their biomass every 24 hours, which allows us to harvest daily. Meanwhile, our farms recycle 98% of the water usage making these little plants uniquely positioned to solve food insecurity among a world's growing population.
Fresh water is becoming a concern all over the world with predictions that within just a few years we will have a serious fresh water shortage all around the world. With agriculture accounting for up to 70% of fresh water usage, the simplest way to reduce our water consumption is through our agricultural practices.
Our innovative farms where we grow water lentils are essentially water neutral. With 98% of our water usage recycled back into our farm, our water lentils can make a huge impact. No water seeps into the ground because our water lentils are grown in aqua-ponds, which means that we do not lose any water.
We’ve all heard the stories about deforestation. One of the main causes of deforestation is need for more arable land. Our water lentils are grown in aqua-ponds, which means that we do not need arable land to grow so we will never contribute to deforestation.
Currently, our farms are situated in Central Florida on land that is no longer usable for orange farmers. Instead of allowing that land to sit, we are able to make use of land that is no longer arable.
Water lentils double in biomass every 24 hours, making them one of the fastest growing crops. Because of this, we can harvest water lentils every single day. Fall, Winter, Spring, Summer – it doesn’t matter what season. Moreover, as we can harvest daily we can grow up to 4x more than other crop. For example, when compared to soybean, we can produce 3x more pounds per acre each year.
We believe that natural food is the best food. Our water lentils are never genetically modified.
