This is going to be the year! Follow these fool proof tips on how to stick with your New Years resolution! Don’t forget – only 21 days until your resolution becomes a habit.
1. Be specific with your goal.
This is, first and foremost, the most important start to your New Years resolution. “I will eat healthier” is not a specific goal. The more specific you are the more likely you are to stick with it! What is healthy? Are you going to only limit yourself to having take-out once a week? Will you make sure to get your 5-a-day everyday? Will you start counting your macros? What exactly will you do to eat healthier? When you understand what your goals are for this next year it will be easier to plan them! Maybe, you want to get fitter in the New Year. In that case, decide you are going to go to the gym 3 times a week or half an hour at least or you are going to walk 1 mile everyday. Be specific.
2. Set realistic expectations.
On a similar note, be realistic with these expectations. If you never go to the gym, then ease yourself into it. Don’t decide to start going to the gym 6 times a week because you are setting yourself up for failure.
3. Write it down.
Write down these goals! Maybe it is a sticky note on your fridge, maybe it is a reminder on your phone or maybe you go out and buy yourself a pretty planner and hand-write it. Writing it down will make it much more concrete. And you won’t have the excuse that you forgot!
Make it fun! Go buy yourself a nice new diary or calendar to keep track of those goals!
4. Buddy up.
Find a friend and decide to make the same goal! I’m sure there are a lot of you out there deciding to “be healthier” and “go to the gym more often”. Do it together! Share recipes, chat on the phone while you meal prep, go to the gym together. It will make these resolutions so much more fun!
